The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has just led the opening of the 8th International Tourism Fair – FIKANI-2022, which runs from today until Saturday in Maputo, re-starting after a two-year break due to Covid-19.
President Nyusi said in his speech that he expected FIKANI to attract more than 5,000 national and foreign tourists this year, against the previous edition’s 4,300.
“World tourism has been beset by several adversities, compounded in our country by terrorist activity in Cabo Delgado province, despite the vigorous actions of the Defence and Security Forces and their partners, which have resulted in the normalization of the situation and the gradual return of the population to their areas of origin,” the president said.
“Our presence is a sign of commitment that tourism is a crucial sector for the country’s development,” he added.
FIKANI would help Mozambique showcase to the world all that is the best in its culture and tourism and show the world the beauty of our country, President Nyusi said.
FIKANI 2022 is a joint initiative between the government, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MICTUR), the National Institute of Tourism (INATUR) and the private sector, represented by the Hotel and Tourism Union.
