It becomes mandatory to declare the entry and exit of money in national and foreign currency above 10 thousand Meticais and 10 thousand US dollars. The measure, based on the foreign exchange law, was announced by the Bank of Mozambique. Entering and leaving the country with cash, in an amount exceeding 10 thousand Meticais or 10 thousand US dollars or equivalent in foreign currency, is subject to the declaration of possession with the financial system regulator. The Bank of Mozambique alert, made public through a note issued last Thursday, determines, under the terms of Law no. foreigners in national territory, in an amount greater than the equivalent of USD 10,000.00 (ten thousand US dollars), must be declared and the bearer must present the document of legitimate possession”. For national currency, the note warns: “The physical entry and exit of national notes and coins, in amounts greater than 10,000.00 MT (ten thousand Meticais), must be declared”. In addition to monetary values, the rules and procedures cover precious metals and ores: “In the import and export of gold (bar, ingot or other unworked form), silver, platinum and other precious metals and minerals, the holder must present, in addition to of the import documents, the respective authorization bulletin issued by the Bank of Mozambique”. According to the note, in order to declare the amounts referred to, the holder of notes and coins must fill in the form in duplicate with the customs authorities, and must keep the duplicate.
