Maputo river flow is above alert level

Road traffic in the section between the administrative post of Catuane and the locality of Madubula, in the district of Matutuine, province of Maputo, is interrupted due to the increase in the flow of the river Maputo. This is due to the increase in discharges at the Pongolapoort Dam in South Africa.
On 18 November last, the Regional Administration of Waters of the South predicted an increase in the water level in the Maputo River, due to the increase in discharges at the Pongolapoort Dam, located in neighboring South Africa, after the last increase in 2018.
No sooner said than done. Discharges have increased and, according to a Communiqué from ARA-sul, there are already consequences. “Flooding of agricultural fields in the lower areas of the Maputo river is recorded and, as a result, road traffic is interrupted in the section of the administrative post of Catuane and locality of Madubula”, reads the statement.
In view of the situation, ARA-Sul reiterates its appeal to society in general to observe precautionary measures when traveling to the Maputo River.
