The Ministry of Transport and Communications has decided to suspend, with effect from this Monday, December 19, the exercise of passenger transport activities by the company “Transportes Ideal”, known as CityLink, including the driver, while the investigation is ongoing to determine the security conditions under which this company operates, for a subsequent final decision. According to an official note to which Notícias “Online” had access, on December 15, 2022, on the EN 6, Coca-Cola area, city of Chimoio, province of Manica, the multisectoral road traffic inspection team, integrating the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, INATRO, I.P., and other local entities, intercepted the vehicle, registration number AKY 641 MC, heavy passenger vehicle of the Yutong Bus brand, belonging to the company Transportes Ideal. “From the work carried out on the ground by the inspection team, it was found that the bus in question carried out passenger transport activities in deplorable mechanical conditions, namely, the failure of the vehicle’s acceleration system, reaching the extreme point where the driver had chosen to for improvising a rope so that another person could accelerate the vehicle in its place, far from it, endangering the safety of passengers and other users of the public road”, explains the statement. According to the note, such a procedure is contrary to passenger transport rules, “and shocked Mozambican society, as it is a practice that puts the lives of the occupants of the vehicle in question, passers-by and other users of the public road at risk, contrary to the and facing the efforts of the Government and society in general, which aim to reduce the rates of road accidents, involving passenger transport vehicles, especially in this festive season.
